How many times have you said “I’m fine” when you really weren’t? I’ve lost count of mine.
I used to think being strong meant keeping it all together. Smile, show up, take care of everyone, and never let anyone see the tired, sad, or lost parts. But I’ve learned that we can’t heal what we keep pretending isn’t there.
So here’s what I want you to hear today: it’s okay to say, “I’m not okay.” It doesn’t make you weak. It makes you human.
Even Jesus wept
“Jesus wept.” — John 11:35
That short verse means so much to me. Jesus felt pain and He cried. If He didn’t hide His emotions, why do we think we have to hide ours?
What comforts me most is that God doesn’t only love me on my good days. When I’m confused, afraid, or can’t even find the words to pray, He is still close.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18
Our pain doesn’t push Him away. He draws near.
Be gentle with yourself
I’m quick to tell a friend “everyone makes mistakes,” then turn around and call myself a failure. Maybe you do that too. So let’s remind each other:
- You are not your worst day.
- You are not your mistakes.
- You are not what someone said about you.
A hard chapter isn’t your whole story. Some days, just getting through the day is enough. One day at a time.
If today is hard
Please don’t carry it alone. Reach out to a friend, a pastor, a counselor, or someone you trust. And talk to God. Your prayer can be as simple as mine has been:
“Lord, I’m not okay. I need You to be with me.”
That’s enough to begin.
You don’t have to have it all figured out to be loved. You don’t have to be perfect to have value. And you don’t have to be okay every day.
It’s okay not to be okay.
Have you ever said “I’m fine” when you weren’t? I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
